Tom Chilcott
At SVGC we’re proud to be a small business formed of experienced, highly qualified people operating on a national platform.

Tom has joined SVGC as Technical Programme Manager, to ensure the successful delivery of our cross-functional technology projects and programmes. Tom works closely with customers to understand and deliver solutions to meet their requirements and enjoys finding unique solutions.

What are your ‘must haves’ to start the working day?

Black coffee, sometimes two, with granola that I make myself, and a run through of a few online puzzles that I like to do every day, starting with Wordle. When I start work, I check my calendars to make sure that I don’t have any conflicting meetings, and then roll up my sleeves to tackle the inbox.

What’s your proudest work achievement to date?

Working closely with my customers to understand and deliver solutions to meet their requirements. In my previous job, I was responsible for delivering a unique solution to meet a particular customer need, and I’m fortunate enough to be responsible for an equally unique, but very different solution, to meet a very different customer need in my current job at SVGC.

What do you love most about what you do?

With a technical background, I like to understand how things work, and how to make things better – whether that’s providing a better technical solution, a better way of working, or helping someone else with their work. I like to think that I’m making a real difference for something important.

What does your typical working day look like?

Lots of meetings, either with other project team members or customers, with some time to focus on my own work. Some days have more meetings than others, so it’s a good balance overall. Every day is different, every day I learn something new, or I help someone else to learn something new.

When you hit a wall, what do you do to help overcome it?

Step away from my desk. If the weather’s nice, I’ll read a book in the garden or go for a run (I’m a fair-weather runner). I’m happy to be flexible so sometimes I’ll take a break and then catch up later.
