David has 38 years of public sector experience from serving in the Navy. He uses the skills learnt during this time to support Defence programmes that focuses on supporting the MoD in delivering modern and much needed capability.
What are your ‘must haves’ to start the working day? (tea, coffee, your dog, background music, podcast, favourite pen/notebook etc etc)
I would like to give you something inspirational, but my day starts very simply; a couple of mugs of tea in silence (no radio!); a quick tidy up around the house; feed the dog, fish, ducks and chickens, and then off to start the day!
What’s your proudest work achievement to date?
After many years in work there are too many to count. I would say that my time in the Royal Navy, 38 years, and serving/traveling around the world will remain foremost in my memories.
What do you love most about what you do?
I am very much focused on supporting the MoD in delivering modern and much needed capability to those who serve on the front line. My role enables me to take those skills and experiences from my past service – plus those I have developed since leaving – and using them to support Defence programmes and projects deliver what the Armed Forces need.
What does your typical working day look like?
Whether working from home or at a customer site I will always start with a short period of admin/focus time. I work out my priorities for the day and then endeavour to stay on track.
When you hit a wall, what do you do to help overcome it?
If I am working from home, I take the dog for a 15 min walk/run in the fields across from my house, this tends to help me reset/clear my mind. If I am at the client site, then a quick walk for 10 mins or so somewhere other than the floorplate helps.
