What are your ‘must haves’ to start the working day?
My morning coffee and headphones are a must. They help me get focused and ready to start the day.
What’s your proudest work achievement to date?
One of my proudest achievements was integrating a software tool that was subsequently used across the organisation, replacing a number of time-consuming manual tasks for users.
It had a significant impact on how some of the processes were managed, making things more efficient and saving valuable time for the people using the system. It was particularly rewarding to see something I had worked on make a tangible difference to people’s day-to-day work.
What do you love most about what you do?
Building software that provides real value to customers and the business. I enjoy taking a problem and creating a solution that makes a process easier, more efficient or more effective for the people using it.
What does your typical working day look like?
Coffee in the morning, headphones on, and then picking up new work or continuing with something left over from the previous day.
The rest of the day depends on what’s happening with the project, but it’s usually a mix of development work, problem-solving and working through the priorities for the day.
When you hit a wall workwise, what do you do to help overcome the hurdle?
I find that having a short but thorough discussion about the problem can be really useful. Talking it through helps me look at the issue from a different perspective, and then having a bit of time to process the information gives me space to work through the problem and figure out the best approach.
