At SVGC we’re proud to be a small business formed of experienced, highly qualified people operating on a national platform.

Deepthi Rao is a Senior Software Engineer at SVGC, specialising in Java-based enterprise applications. With extensive experience in designing and developing robust, scalable software solutions, she brings expertise in system integration and performance optimisation across multiple industries.

What are your ‘must haves’ to start the working day?

To start my day, I like to ease in with a good stretch or a walk to clear my mind, followed by a glass of my magic celery juice. A bit of quiet time to plan my tasks and set up my workspace helps me get into the right mindset.

What’s your proudest work achievement to date?

One of my proudest achievements was leading a project that reduced API call latency by 30%. By analysing performance bottlenecks, optimising critical code paths, and implementing comprehensive monitoring, we achieved long-term efficiency and reliability for the system.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love solving problems through clean, efficient code and seeing the real-world impact of the solutions I build. There’s a great sense of satisfaction in turning a challenging requirement into something that works seamlessly for the user.

What does your typical working day look like?

I usually begin by reviewing my task list, followed by a daily stand-up with the team. Most of my day is spent on development—writing new code, reviewing pull requests, or troubleshooting bugs. There’s often collaboration with colleagues or stakeholders, and I like to wrap up by planning for the next day.

When you hit a wall workwise, what do you do to help overcome the hurdle?

I find that stepping away from the screen for a quick walk or a change of environment helps reset my focus. Talking through the problem with a colleague or breaking it into smaller parts often leads to a breakthrough. I also find that talking the problem through with a colleague, or breaking it down into smaller parts, often leads to a breakthrough.
