At SVGC we’re proud to be a small business formed of experienced, highly qualified people operating on a national platform.

James Malburn is a Business & Security Administrator at SVGC, supporting invoicing, onboarding, pre-employment checks and security compliance. He plays a key role in keeping business operations running smoothly through efficient processes and strong attention to detail.

What’s your role at SVGC and what’s your background?

As Business & Security Administrator, I work closely with the Business Manager and Security Controller to support a wide range of activities. I’m most involved in invoicing, pre-employment checks, onboarding, security clearance and compliance, helping to keep the business running efficiently and securely.

What are your ‘must haves’ to start the working day?

I always try to start the day with some exercise outside, even if it’s just a short walk. Being active and getting fresh air helps clear my head and makes me feel ready to take on the day.

What’s your proudest work achievement to date?

My proudest achievement has been being involved in building and streamlining processes as part of a mapping and improvement project. I see this as a really important part of business continuity, so it was rewarding to help make those processes clearer and more effective.

What do you love most about what you do?

The variety and adaptability of my role. As I learn more about the business’s processes and needs, I enjoy exploring new ways of working and improving efficiency. Seeing small changes make a real difference is something I find very fulfilling.

What does your typical working day look like?

A typical day involves working closely with the Business Manager to manage invoicing and billing, alongside supporting ongoing pre-employment and onboarding activity. I also spend time preparing for certifications or audits whenever needed.

When you hit a wall workwise, what do you do?

I do something else. When I get stuck on a persistent issue, it’s easy to lose perspective, so switching to a different task helps me mentally reset and come back to the problem with a fresh approach.
