Liam Ardagh
At SVGC we’re proud to be a small business formed of experienced, highly qualified people operating on a national platform.

Liam recently joined SVGC as a Principal Consultant and Space Campaign Lead, bringing with him a strong background in systems thinking, operational planning, and technical problem-solving. With experience spanning national infrastructure and public health initiatives, Liam is passionate about leading collaborative teams and applying a creative lens to complex challenges.

What are your ‘must haves’ to start the working day?

I’m a foodie through and through, so a good breakfast and a walk with my dog are essential to start the day right. A strong cup of tea never hurts either.

What’s your proudest work achievement to date?

One of the most rewarding projects I’ve been part of was supporting the national PCR COVID testing effort during the lockdowns. I helped to build and staff facilities that enabled testing at scale, ensuring results were delivered quickly to people across the UK. It was a huge, complex challenge, but one that had a real and immediate impact on public health.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love puzzles, and complex problems that I can learn about and challenge myself with. Finding ways to solve technical systems with a team is the most satisfying part of any work I have done. In a team these problems always let talented or creative ideas get tested and shared for everyone to learn from or build upon. I also really enjoy teaching people about my skills and sharing back what I have been taught. I also really enjoy mentoring and sharing what I’ve learned with others, just as I’ve been fortunate to learn from great colleagues myself.

What does your typical working day look like?

If I’m working from home, the day usually starts with tea and the occasional dog-based distraction. I spend a lot of time in calls and workshops with the team, and I always try to keep lunchtime free to step away from the desk and head out into the countryside for a break.

When you hit a wall workwise, what do you do to help overcome the hurdle?

My first instinct is always to reach out, whether it’s a colleague, peer, or someone in my network. I find that talking things through almost always helps. I also try to stay up to date with industry news, training, and best practices so I’ve got fresh perspectives to bring to the challenge.
