Mike

At SVGC we’re proud to be a small business formed of experienced, highly qualified people operating on a national platform.

With a strong background in application support and a genuine passion for problem-solving, Mike combines technical curiosity with a customer-first mindset. He is dedicated to helping users get the best experience possible, while continuously exploring and learning new technologies to improve outcomes.

What are your ‘must haves’ to start the working day?

I start my day with a nice morning greeting from our 3 pugs, followed by a fresh bean to cup coffee – this is a must. Then it’s Planet Rock or Kerrang on the radio. The combination of a coffee and background music is the perfect way to set me up for the day ahead.

What’s your proudest work achievement to date?

I began my career working in electronics but always had a passion for IT problem solving and customer service. It was difficult to change career paths, as most places wanted experience that I did not have, but I managed to in 2005 and have not looked back since, working my way from entry level to an experienced IT Application Support Analyst.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love working with customers, to provide them with the best level of customer service I can. I am a big believer in ‘treat people how you would like to be treated’. Couple that with my nerdy side, where I love to dig into problem solving and learning new technologies.

What does your typical working day look like?

First stop is a coffee to start the day, with some music/radio on in the background. Then catchup on emails and messages, look today’s to-do list, then check my calendar for what calls I have. In a customer support role, the initial plan to work from the to-do list can easily change to the needs of the customer, so the day can vary work wise.

When you hit a wall workwise, what do you do to help overcome the hurdle?

If I have exhausted all avenues myself on a task, I would reach out to a colleague for a fresh perspective on it to see if that helps. If I am still stuck, I would switch to a different task or take a break to reset the mind. Then approach it another time from a fresh perspective.
